Giving Back to the Community With Air Mickey Markoff
Former Air & Sea Show organizer Mickey Markoff and the MDM Group Inc., who put on the iconic display of military machinery for 13 years, say the name belongs to them, and you also can’t own it.
Two businessmen from Fort Lauderdale, Steve Savor and Stanton Smith, received the o.k. through the city to determine a whole new replacement show. Nearly finished with their endeavors, they still need another task on their to-do-list. Friday Smith declared that he’ll almost certainly find another good name for the event.
“The media and also the public probably will reference it nonetheless they choose,” Smith said. “We’re pleased to adhere to (the request).”
Markoff’s show brought fighter jets, bombers, stunt pilots and a marine exhibition into a crush of spectators about the beachfront annually from 1995 to 2007.
Smith said he and his awesome partner inside the yet-to-be-named air show were advised of MDM Group’s would like to protect the name it made popular. Fort Lauderdale city attorney Harry Stewart said he wasn’t aware about any notice towards the city about it. But instructions in regards to the name from Fort Lauderdale attorney Gustavo Sardina on the Sun Sentinel says it had been delivered to the city parks and recreation department, too.
They’ll also have to deal with environmental concerns. Dan Clark, president of Cry in the Water environmental group, told commissioners that protected reefs offshore cannot be harmed by boat anchors when they have in past shows. He urged the organizers to begin with seeing regulatory agencies.
