How to Save the Health and Safety of Our Firefighters Through the Use of the AFG Grants

April 11th, 2009

An important federal grants program that was ordered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after we were attacked: The Assistance to Fire Fighters Grants (AFG).  This grant program from DHS is distributed through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and it is normally called the AFG Fire Grants

The United States government is making available $565 million to fire fighting agencies that fulfill the proper specifications and that write a winning AFG Fire Grants Application.  Wherever  you live in the USA your life and property are being protected by your nearby fire department and you can do your fire department a huge favor by making sure that they are taking advantage of this free grant money.  Please call you local fire chief and ask if they are aware of this program and refer them to the website linked to in this article.  This is totally legitimate and we do not charge for this free information.

The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical services organizations. Across our great nation most fire departments and EMS organizations are eligible for free government grants money through FEMA.

There are many articles on www.AFGgrants.com that explain the requirements on how to make an application for this free federal grant money.  You will also find links to free help in filling out the application. All types of fire departments large and small, paid or volunteer departments are eligible to apply for the free grant money.

One area of Health and Safety to think about is to install a filter system on the exhausts of diesel fire trucks and other diesel apparatus.  The fire trucks are running for long periods of time while in service at a fire, and when the trucks are running inside the firehouse for maintenance, poisonous gasses and dangerous particulate matter are spewed out.  A NO SMOKE diesel exhaust filter described on this website may also be covered by the AFG grants money.  A report issued by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazards Assessment (OEHHA) tells about the health hazards of diesel exhaust.

Diesel engines have become the most widely used portable power source in recent years.  A NO SMOKE filter will protect your firefighters and the public.  There is nothing more important than the Health and Safety of our wonderful firefighters.
