Pain Management And The Types Of Treatments That Are Available

February 13th, 2010

What are the alternatives when pain strikes. This varies on how severe the pain is, and where the pain is occurring. If the pain is a headache, toothache or a minor pain we all suffer from, then an over the counter analgesic will normally suffice. For toothache pain killers containing Ibuprofen is probably the correct solution, toothache is often accompanied by inflammation in the troubled area, Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory and therefore helps to reduce the inflammation. If the pain persists you should seek medical advice, as the pain could be the symptom of a more chronic underlying problem. Pain is your body letting you know that something is amiss, do not ignore this message if pain persists.

There are two types of pain, chronic and acute pain. Acute pain is normally a short term pain that goes away without treatment, it has no serious underlying medical problems associated with it and normally requires nothing more than over the counter analgesics. Chronic pain though is more serious, it generally persists and is likely to be associated with a more serious underlying disease or injury. It can often begin from something like a sprain or an infection that eventually becomes more serious, or it can be the result of a developing disease or cancer. Chronic pain can persist for months, or even years. As well as a need to treat the underlying problem, pain killers stronger than normal pain medication is usually required. Among the most common pain medications include tramadol, ultram and ultracet, with tramadol being the most common prescribed. These pain killers aren’t scheduled as controlled substances, it is therefore possible to buy tramadol online. In many cases pain killers are prescribed along with seperate treatments to treat the problem causing the pain.

Probably the most common form of pain we all experience is a headache. A headache may well disappear without recourse to any treatment, over the counter pain medication will usually suffice to ease the pain. Migraine is a much more severe type of a headache and can be caused by several conditions. A migraine can be accompanied by several other conditions, for example changing moods, sensitivity to light, one sided headaches and nausea or vomiting. A migraine can last for a few hours, but might last for a few days. Anyone experiencing a migraine should seek medical attention.

For pain that is associated with joints and muscles, physiotherapy is often used as a treatment, and can in many cases result in the complete cure of the underlying problem. Electrical stimulation is a technique sometimes used, often as a last resort. Electrical stimulation works by interrupting pain signals in the spinal cord. Acupuncture may also be used to try and lessen pain, fine needles are place at key points on the skin, these disrupt the flow of spasms through the body. Fine needles may be placed in areas far removed from the origin of the pain.

The main point to consider, is that if pain becomes serious, especially if it persists, get immediate medical attention, it could be down to a more serious problem.
