Using Graphics to Improve Your Website

July 15th, 2010

Website design woukld be pretty dull without graphic design. This article will briefly explain the different types of graphics used in website design and how you can use them to enhance your site.

What Are Graphics?

Graphics are images that can be inserted into your web pages.
Some graphics are actual links visitors click on and some are not. There are several different types of graphics, as described below.

Types of Graphics:

1) Logo: This is a company or website logo image that is placed on your web page. This may be a photo, clipart, wordart, or a combination of each. Logos on a website are used in basically the same ways as any company logo. You will want to place your distinct logo on every page of your site to give your site a uniform look. Your web logo will become recognisable to your site visitors and create a professional reputation with them.

2) ClipArt or WebArt: You can use clipart to illustrate certain points of your presentations, add humor or personality to your site and to illustrate your products or services when possible. Clipart can be almost any type of image (animals, computers, colors, shapes, letters, animations, business themes, people, etc.)

3) Banners: Banners are mainly used for advertisements on websites. Small and large banners exist on many sites, sometimes ten or more on a page. A banner is nothing more than a Web graphic that is an active link, taking the visitor to another part of that same website or a different website.

4) Buttons: Buttons are used in the same way as links within a website. A button is meant to enhance the page and help the navigation to run smoothly. Buttons can be used independently or within an entire navigation sitemap.
